Ever since the last update of iTunes, Quicktime has been teh brokeh. It won't open .mov movies, instead complaining that it can't find the Quicktime ActiveX plugin. Neither a repair or a re-install cured the problem. Meh, I can live without Quicktime until the next update, methinks, afterall iTunes still works.
So today I downloaded the latest update of Safari via Apple Update. Tried to run it. Wouldn't you know it.. "components are missing, please reinstall Safari" or words to that affect. So I download the full Safari distro, and install it. Nada. So I uninstall both Quicktime AND Safari, download the distros, and install them. Nada.
Apple giveth, and Apple taketh away. Fix it already.
The beta of Safari 3 for WINDOWS is available for download now
Awesome. Now all we need is iLife and we're sorted ;)
(Won't replace Firefox, but is handy for testing sites I've designed to make sure they're Mac capable)
There is a light at the end of my Vista tunnel... unfortunately (and unsurprisingly) it isn't coming from Microsoft:
Apple just released iTunes 7.1 and Quicktime 7.1.5, for Windows and Mac, and they can be downloaded via Apple Update. The Windows version promises Vista compatibility - thank the goddess for that!
Hey Apple, how about letting Vista users download OSX via Apple Update then?? I would consider THAT a critical update :-P

edit: apparently, this update doesn't fix Vista compatibility, it makes it worse. Although I love the full-screen coverflow. But why, oh why, does it blank off BOTH my monitors? Full-screen coverflow on one monitor, work on another monitor, that would be awesome. But noooooo....
OK, that's a shite headline that doesn't really rhyme. Anyhow, apparently, according to some fuzzy logic, 9000 users a day are switching to Mac, bringing the total number of Mac users in the world to something like 22 million. Sounds fantastic, until you pit it against the .. what? how many Windows users worldwide? Billions? who knows.
My point is that it would be far more than 9000 a day if 90% of the world COULD ACTUALLY AFFORD A BLOODY MAC! Outrageous. I've complained about Vista costing $400+ in the UK. Well, Macs follow the same insane markup (or $price being identical to £price). No way jose. Infact, never, not in a million years could I afford a Mac. Now.. paying £100 for OSX, that I could do.
Of course, if someone wants to give me a Mac, then consider me switched.

WTFmkIII : My scanner is incompatible with Vista. Yeah, Vista told me to scoot over to Canon's website and download a driver for it. Thing is, according to Canon's website
"Due to product specifications, the **** models cannot be used with Windows Vista"
Not "the XP driver won't work with Vista", or "Vista compatible driver coming soon" - but "forget it".
So I can't use my scanner, my printer or my pen-tablet with Vista. So whats the fecking point of it then?? ALL - and I stress ALL - of those things work with a bloody cracked version of OSX, which wasn't even written for the hardware, so why don't they work on an OS that IS written for that hardware? Oh, I know the excuse - "Its not Microsoft's fault, its the hardware manufacturers". I would argue that it IS Microsoft's fault - they should have finished Vista, given it to the hardware manufacturers, sat on it for a couple of months while they waited for all the drivers to come in, then release it. But noooooo.... they're running according to some shareholder schedule or something. As it is, the hardware manufacturers are getting hold of Vista at the SAME TIME as the consumers are, leaving those people buying Vista knackered. Holy shit, thats rotten customer service, and just a headache of their own devising. I pity the poor I.T. manager who gets lumbered with 500 copies of Vista, to be installed "asap". Good luck with that....
Apple iPhone
Now, how long before we can get these on Three and O2 in the UK? Better be before the summer or I'm kicking someone's arse.
Fanboi? No, I wasn't. Until today.... ;)
